Our Story
Riverside on the Root has been Family Owned since 1992 at 109 South Parkway and was originally the Northern Iowa Oil Company in the 1930’s.
In the 50’s it became a city car garage and car wash. Later to be purchased as the Johnson Fur Company. It was then purchased in the 80’s as a rental store for canoes.
In 1996 Mike and Julie Charlebois purchased the Root River Outfitters from his brother who purchased this building in 1992. 3 years later, Mike and Julie started their dream of owning and building the Riverside on the Root opening the restaurant in July of 2001. As it is now 3 of the walls partially exist. When they added on there was no sewer, one outside water hydrant and three electrical outlets in the building. What a dream! Because the marriage of the two businesses out grew each other, Root River Outfitters moved 2 locations North in 2010.
