Riverside on the Root has been Family Owned since 1992 at 109 South Parkway and was originally the Northern Iowa Oil Company in the 1930’s.
In the 50’s it became a city car garage and car wash. Later to be purchased as the Johnson Fur Company. It was then purchased in the 80’s as a rental store for canoes.
In 1999 Mike and Julie Charlebois purchased Riverside on the Root and started their dream of owning and building the Riverside on the Root opening the restaurant in July of 2001. As it is now 3 of the walls partially exist. When they added on there was no sewer, one outside water hydrant and three electrical outlets in the building. What a dream! Because the marriage of the two businesses out grew each, Root River Outfitters moved 2 locations North in 2010.
